2009 - Community Health Services
In July 2009, NELFT started to provide some community-based family health services, when NHS Barking and Dagenham contracted the management of their community health services. This change has come about because the Government wants primary care trusts to focus on their main role of commissioning services and leading the NHS in their area.
Since becoming a Foundation Trust, we have strived to provide even better, more diverse care, and to further develop and deliver the local services that our communities want and need. The opportunity to host community health services in Barking & Dagenham is seen as a big step towards achieving this. Physical health problems and mental health issues are often connected, and one can often affect the other. By recognising this, and working together to treat all aspects of a person’s health, we can offer the type of holistic care that will bring real benefits to people in our communities.
2008 – Becoming a Foundation Trust

2001 - North East London Mental Health Trust
NELMHT was formed in 2001, when the mental health services that had previously been provided by several other NHS organisations were combined into one specialist mental health trust.
