Description of service provided

Waltham Forest Psychological Services provide a range of eclectic and specialist psychotherapies organised into the following teams:

  • adult mental health (including older adults)
  • psychosis and complex needs
  • cognitive/neuropsychological disorders.

The service provided includes psychological assessment and treatment, supervision and training of other staff, indirect work/consultation and research and service development.

Services are provided by a range of specialist psychological therapy staff including clinical and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and family therapists.

The Service plays a significant role in the training of psychologists regionally.

The Service is organised on a borough-wide basis and offered at a range of venues across Waltham Forest and also deployed into all of the specialist mental health teams operating in the borough.

Refugee support service

The Refugee Support Service offers psychological therapy to individuals and couples who came to the UK as exiles at any point.

Therapists speak a number of community languages including French, Turkish, Serbian/Croatian and Somali.  For other language support needs, trained interpreters are employed.

The service works with individuals with a range of presenting problems, but has specialist expertise in work with post-traumatic symptoms in keeping with the frequency of experiences of violence and war amongst this population.

The service is open to referral from any professional source including refugee community organisations.
