National No Smoking Day is on Wednesday 8 March and encourages smokers to try to give up smoking for good. The NELFT Stop Smoking Service provides advice and support for the residents of Redbridge and Waltham Forest and is running a number of events around No Smoking Day across the two boroughs.
Nineteen percent of adults smoke in Great Britain, which is just under 1 in 5. Smoking prevalence is on a gradual decline, down from a peak of 46% seen in 1974. Surveys show that around 66% of smokers are interested in quitting, but only around 35% make a quit attempt.
Free help is available from NELFT Stop Smoking Service that offers weekly support to patients and staff members either in person or over the phone. We have specialist advisors who will help you to understand your habit and addiction, guide you every step of the way towards successful quitting by offering tailored advice on behaviour change, Nicotine Replacement Therapy and advice on electronic cigarettes (Electronic cigarette devices are not provided by the service).
