The official opening of the new Becontree Centre took place today, Thursday 19 June 2012.
The two-storey facility has been extended and refurbished and was opened to patients in January 2012. The building provides nine consulting rooms for individuals and groups, a family therapy room and an art therapy room.
The Becontree Centre is home to two of the Borough’s community mental health teams, Psychological Services and the Access and Assessment Team which provides a single point of access for patient referrals.
Martin Munro, Executive Director Human Resources and Workforce Development for North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT), Sue Boon, Managing Director of NELFT Mental Health Services and David Horne, NELFT Operational Director were joined by Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, Councillor Anthony Ramsey, and a service user to cut a red ribbon to formally open the facility.
The opening of the Becontree Centre was dedicated to Paula Baisden, an administrator for the team for the past 12 years, who sadly passed away at the weekend.
NELFT Operational Director David Horne said:
“This modern development will provide an inspiring environment for service users and staff. The development demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible care and treatment. I’m confident everyone will continue to appreciate this well-valued facility and value the staff who deliver such important services."
