Walk-in centre moves into Barking Community Hospital

The walk-in centre, provided by North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT), is now seeing patients at Barking Community Hospital following a move from its previous base on Upney Lane. It offers a wide range of treatment including for minor cuts and burns, sprains and strains, minor head injuries and minor illnesses and infections.

The centre is open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 10 pm. It is also open Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays from 9 am to 10 pm.

Barking GP Dr Arun Sharma.says:

“The hospital has been open since 2010, but we’re really delighted the walk-in centre has been moved from Upney Lane and is now seeing patients.

As local GPs we have been closely involved in planning these new services and we’re not finished yet. This is all about offering more services for local people, closer to where they live.”

Jacqui Van Rossum, NELFT’s executive director of community services and transformation, welcomes the move. She says:

“The team has been looking forward to providing treatment in a brand new building – it’s a better environment for staff and patients. It’s great the service is now in its new home.”

Within weeks, Barking Community Hospital will also be offering blood tests, x-ray, dermatology and general medicine as well as welcoming the Friends of Barking Hospital when their new café opens, once training for volunteers is complete.
