Olympian Fatima Whitbread to attend NELFT games 2012

Olympian Fatima Whitbread will join staff, patients and partner organisations at the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) Annual 2012 Sports Day on Wednesday, 18 July.

The NELFT Games 2012 will take place on the sports field at the Goodmayes Hospital site and will celebrate sport, good physical and mental health and overall wellbeing.

There will be a number of events, which will bring together the people who use our services, carers, NHS staff, partner organisations and members of the wider community, to take part in sporting and fitness activities ranging from a five-a-side football tournament and rounders to Yoga and Zumba– to name a few!

Trust Chair Jane Atkinson said: “Now 2012 is here, we remain as committed as ever to promoting the role of sport in mental health, physical health and overall wellbeing. This has not gone unrecognised – NELFT was the first Trust in London to receive gold accreditation in the NHS Sport and Physical Activity Challenge.

“We are delighted to welcome Olympian Fatima Whitbread to our sports day this year. So, I am hoping as many people as possible will help us make this year’s ‘Fit for 2012’ NELFT Games the best ever, and take part in some of the activities to celebrate sport, health and wellbeing in this historic Olympic year.”

Fatima Whitbred said: “I’m really delighted to be part of the North East London NHS Foundation Trust Sports Day, particularly as it is a fantastic way to promote sport and overall wellbeing in this Olympic year.

“Sport has been fantastic for me. When you’re physically fit it helps your overall wellbeing.”

The day will take place on the Goodmayes sports fields, Goodmayes Hospital, Barley Lane, Ilford.

People are welcome to join the NELFT Games 2012 from 10.45am. The official opening will take place at 11am.
