Description of service

Estar offer a service to residents of Barking and Dagenham aged 14 to 35 years of age who are or may be experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

The aim of the team is to offer an early intervention service to people experiencing first episode psychosis. People are offered assessment based on suspicion of an underlying psychosis and the assessment process takes place over a number of weeks to allow for a developing understanding of a person's problems. The approach is to use community facilities and resources and not rely solely on mental health services. The goal of the team is to enable people to maintain their social supports, vocation and lifestyle despite the occurrence of a psychotic episode.

The team is staffed by experienced mental health professionals from a range of backgrounds.
