Carrying out equality impact assessments is a key requirement of the Race Relations, Disability and Gender Equality Scheme that applies to all public organisations. They also allow us to keep our services accessible to everyone and help to prevent discrimination of any kind.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As part of the national drive to explore the impact of COVID-19 on black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) colleagues, NELFT’s operational and strategic incident management teams undertook the task to complete an Equality Impact Assessment for colleagues, with the support of the Trust’s Head of equality, diversion and inclusion, Harjit K Bansal.

The aim of the equality impact assessment (EQIA) was to ensure that black, Asian and ethnic minority groups did not experience or have a negative impact of COVID-19, and that actions were implemented to minimise the risk to BAME groups, those with disabilities, including long-term conditions and male colleagues. 

The EQIA's Action Plan is being monitored via the incident management teams and was developed by the ethnic minority staff network ambassadors group following the disproportionate number of deaths of BAME staff to COVID-19.
