We were delighted to be represented at the recent London Social Partnership Conference jointly hosted by NHS Employers and the trade unions. The aim of the conference was to demonstrate ongoing commitments to working in partnership across the health and social care sector with a focus on staff engagement and good employee relations.
NELFT was represented by Bob Champion, Executive Director of Workforce and Organisational Development and Ubaidul Hoque, NELFT Staff Side Chair. They presented to a wide audience on the achievements of the Well Together Programme and how that translated into sustainable reductions in agency staff spend and sickness absence. The focus was on the engagement of over 250 colleagues in developing quality improvement initiatives linked to a number of workforce management processes and practices.
Bob Champion said “Our staff are best placed to identify the areas of improvement in relation to a number of workforce issues. The Well Together Programme has enabled staff to make improvements, share best practice and support sustainable reductions in agency spend and sickness absence. I am proud of our achievements and we continue to work hard to make further progress.
As a result of that programme we achieved a 1% reduction in sickness absence and reduced our agency spend by £10 million, for which we received a leadership award from Allocate Software.”
Feedback from participants was very positive and NHS Employers have requested that we submit a case study of the journey for their best practice toolkit.
