Wellington Makala, deputy integrated care director – Acute Mental Health Division & NELFT BME Ambassador said of the nomination:

NELFT is recognised nationally as one of the leading NHS organisations for supporting the BME agenda and we are a trust where diversity is celebrated . The EMN became the first BME network in 2012 to have a strategy to support this work. Six years, and a number of national awards,  later the network has continue to grow from strength to strength with full support of the Board and network Executive sponsor John Brouder our CEO.  Being nominated for inclusive companies award is a great encouragement to the organisation for this work which has now turned NELFT to be the preferred employer for BME staff in NHS .

The Inclusive companies Awards is the only awards ceremony that rewards organisations for harnessing a truly diverse workforce, thus recognising the significant efforts of organisations nationwide that excel in their commitment to equality and inclusion across all strands of diversity.

Harjit, who was nominated for the Diversity Champion award, said of being personally nominated:

Last year the Diversity team was shortlisted, and this year, I have been nominated as the Diversity Champion which is a privilege and an honour.

However I am still of the opinion that, in order to fully embed the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda, leadership and ownership of the agenda is required by all staff at all levels.  I hope staff will vote for me as this will be the first time that I will get a personal award. I would like to thank all staff in anticipation for this.
