NELFT patients create an artwork tribute for Remembrance Day

Patients on Stage ward at Sunflowers Court inpatient unit in Goodmayes have created a piece of artwork as a Remembrance Day tribute.

Remembrance Sunday

Stage ward is a male acute mental health older adult and frailty ward, many of the patients have advanced dementia, so an integral part of their therapeutic programme on the ward involves reminiscence. Creating a group piece of art with the patients was the ideal opportunity to share past experiences and thoughts on both the world wars and to provide a place for our gentlemen to pay their respects to the many fallen soldiers. Staff worked closely with the patients to reminisce about both world wars, they spoke about how young the soldiers were and how much loss was suffered through those times.

They decided to dedicate the artwork to a fallen soldier who was a former pupil of Goodmayes Junior School, a local primary school close to the unit, who tragically lost his life to the war 100 years ago. It was clear to see just how proud our gentleman felt.
