This week saw the release of the 2019 HSJ Top 50 chief executives list and we are delighted to see that our very own John Brouder has been ranked as seventh. Special mention was made to our recent NHS Staff Survey results as part of the ranking.
The list, which is judged by a panel of professionals from across healthcare including the CQC, NHS Employers, NHS Providers, and NHS England, assesses chief executives on three criteria:
- Leadership style and personal example
- The performance of their trust against peers
- Their contribution to the wider health system
NELFT is also one of only three mental health trusts to be listed in the top ten, with only ourselves and East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT), led by Dr Navina Evans, listed in London. Alastair Mclellan, editor of the HSJ, gave recognition to this, stating:
"That two mental health trusts in one of the most challenging parts of the country have recorded such significant advances is one of the most cheering episodes to emerge from this trying time for the NHS."
On the news, John Brouder said:
"To be listed as one of the top chief executives in the country alongside my peers is an incredible honour and very humbling. It is especially rewarding to see two mental health trusts in London featured in the top ten. This is a testament to the work we are doing in London to provide the best care to the communities we serve"
