On Wednesday 15 May clinical staff from across NELFT, along with mental health ambassadors, came together to celebrate Nurses Day and mark the contribution that our nurses make to our service users and our local communities.
The annual event, led by Diane Searle, director of nursing, patient safety, centred around the theme of holistic care and how we can work together, using holistic techniques, to provide the best care to our service users. With a range topics such as mental health, physical health, patient care and wellbeing, The event also looked at how we can embed equality and diversity in patient care.
Along with our own staff members providing advice and support, we also welcomed mental health campaigner and founder of 'Beyond Shame Beyond Stigma' Mr Jonny Benjamin MBE who shared his inspirational story of living with mental illness, his campaign 'Find Mike' and also his work with schools and communities across the UK to raise awareness of suicide and mental health.
We were also delighted to have Ashley Brooks, National Patient Champion, speak with us about the impact we, as health professionals, can have on our patients and the importance of positive interactions in supporting patient care.
Keeping In line with the theme, attendees were also treated to an afternoon Tai-chi session, showcasing the benefits that this form of martial arts can have on your mental health and physical health.
