Patients to benefit from outdoor gym equipment at Sunflowers Court

Patients at Sunflowers Court (our mental health inpatient unit) are benefitting from new outdoor gym equipment thanks to the Friends of Goodmayes. Following a charitable donation, the new exercise equipment has been purchased and installed outside the unit based at Goodmayes in Ilford.

A number of studies over recent years have highlighted positive links to physical activity and improved mental wellbeing so we are extremely grateful to the Friends of Goodmayes for their generous support to enable the new outdoor gym.

Kieran Mahony, Acute & Inpatient Social Inclusion & OT Lead, said “There are strong links between physical and mental health so it is great that we now have some outside space and equipment for our patients to benefit from being able to exercise outside. Being outdoors as well as carrying out physical activity can support people to improve their mental wellbeing.”

Caroline O’Donnell, Integrated Care Director, said “We would like to thank the Friends of Goodmayes for their continued support in helping us to provide therapeutic activities for patients at Sunflowers Court. This is a great addition to the site and patients are already benefitting from access to the new outdoor gym.”

Sunflowers Court is our adult mental health inpatient unit, providing care for patients who are not able to be cared for at home for a period of time. The aim of the unit is to support patients recovery to enable them to return home with the right support package in place.
