District nursing
The district nursing service provides 24 hour care for people aged 16 and over who have an identified nursing need and who live in Barking and Dagenham. The Barking and Dagenham community nursing night service covers the district nursing service out of normal working hours.
The service is provided in the patient’s own home, or in residential care settings, with the exception of post-operative wound care clinics which are held in health clinics.
District nurses care for patients with a wide range of nursing needs including the chronically sick and terminally ill. They also provide nursing services to those who are acutely ill and need intensive and technological care or who have specialist care needs.
The district nursing service in Barking and Dagenham is part of the Community health and social care services (CHSCS).
