For clinicians

Neonatal BCG vaccinations are offered to infants from up to the age of 1 year, for infants living within Barking & Dagenham & Havering as a targeted service to those babies who fits the criteria set out by  NHS England. The babies will be risk assessed by GP’s, health visitors and the Immunisation nurses and then referred to the BCG team

The team offers a universal service to the residents of Redbridge borough as the borough is deemed by Public Health England to be a high risk borough

Referral information

There is a global shortage in the vaccine we use for this service, so NHS England have provided all the BCG services nationally with an optimisation plan which advises us not to offer the vaccine to any child over 1year of age. The children who miss the vaccine at the maternity units will be risk assessed before they are offered the service.
