Children in Care Service Barking and Dagenham

The Children in Care service provide health support for those children / young people who are in care aged between 0-18 years, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. All Children in Care are offered annual / bi-annual health assessments, where their health needs are discussed, referrals to other services made, if necessary and support is provided.

The service aims to promote the current and future of health of children and young people, through creating a health plan that identifies their individual health needs and specifies how these needs will be met. These health plans are then shared with the GP, Social Care and Foster Carer and will be reviewed with the Independent Reviewing Officer at each of their Children in Care meetings. Health plans are reviewed and amended at each health assessment. Consent is sought from the carer or young person to conduct the health assessment and share information with the relevant agencies.
