Sir John Gieve joined NELFT in May 2025. 

Sir John brings a wealth of experience in public service, financial governance, and non-executive leadership. Having joined Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in 2011 as a NED, he was later appointed Chair, serving 6 years in this role, from April 2019 until March 2025.

Outside of the NHS, he was Managing Director at HM Treasury for three years and Permanent Secretary to the Home Office between 2001 and 2005, before becoming Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 2006 to 2009 as the Bank changed its role and approach to tackle the international financial crisis.

Other roles include Chair of Trustees at Nesta, an innovation foundation, and Chair of Vocalink, a payment systems provider. Sir John also chaired risk committees at CLS, a global financial market infrastructure firm, and Morgan Stanley International, an investment bank.

Sir John is a member of the Trust’s Audit & Risk Committee.
