Overview

What is the study about?

People who join the study can get help to find groups or connect with family and friends to feel less lonely.

There are two groups in this programme:

  • Half of the people will get a Community Navigator to help them
  • The other half will get written information about local social activities. This means they will get papers or booklets that tell them about fun things to do nearby.

Both groups will also continue to get their usual care, which means the regular help they already receive.

What is the study trying to find out?

The study is trying to find out a way to help people who feel sad and lonely. They want to know if a Community Navigator or written information about social activities can help them feel less sad and lonely. They created two Groups. A Community Navigator is a person who has learned a lot about the area. They know what is fun to do and can link the person with other people who have same interests. Written information can also be helpful.  People can find out via brochures where to find fun places in their area.

Why is it important?

How can the Community Navigator programme help? Maybe the programme can help people feel more connected to others. This way, they will feel less lonely too. We also want to know if this help makes their life better and happier.

Summary

This study is no longer looking for new participants but is still ongoing.

We have created a special programme, called Community Navigator programme.  We aim to help people who feel very sad for a long time. Depression is another word doctors use, when someone feels sad for too long. Sometimes, people with depression also feel lonely. This means they don’t have many friends. They might miss out on fun activities too.
