Pat Beverly, NELFT Redbridge specialist school nurse, has been given the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN) by community nursing charity the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI).
The title is not an award for past service, but indicates a commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership. Nurses who hold the title benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities and a shared professional identity.
Dr Crystal Oldman, chief executive of the QNI, said: “Congratulations are due to Pat for her success. Community nurses are expert professionals who make a vital contribution to patient health and wellbeing every day. As a national charity the QNI can share innovation and best practice, supporting nurses to deliver excellent healthcare to patients in local communities.”
The title of Queen’s Nurse is open to community nurses with at least three years’ experience. Managers and patients provide feedback about applicants, which is assessed along with their application.
More information about how to apply is available at the QNI website: www.qni.org.uk
Pat Beverly said: “I was delighted to receive this award and honoured to be among some fantastic nurses. The title Queen’s Nurse gives me the opportunity to network with other Queen’s Nurses and raise the profile of the EOTAS Specialist School Nurse. The Queen’s Nursing Institute makes bursaries available to support innovation and development.
“Having worked in Redbridge for 16 years, I have been given many opportunities to develop skills, knowledge and practice as well as the role of EOTAS nurse. I am so grateful for the support of my colleagues; working in a positive environment undoubtedly enhances my practice.”
Claire Donnelly operational lead of the Redbridge Health Visiting and School Nursing said: “Pat really deserves this award. She is a dedicated school nurse who cares about the young people she works with. Well done Pat.”
