Neuroscience specialist nursing service

The neuroscience specialist nursing service supports people over the age of 18 living with neurological conditions. The service helps patients avoid unnecessary hospital admissions and outpatient appointments. Patients are seen either at nurse-led clinics or in their home environment if required. The neurology nurse specialist service provides:

  • medication review, advice and information
  • advice and information on conditions
  • the opportunity to identify concerns with patients and their carers and discuss ways of managing them
  • a liaison between neurologist, GP and geriatrician regarding all aspects of care
  • a liaison and referral to other healthcare professionals

Referrals

The above services accept referrals from healthcare professionals as well as self referrals from patients or their carers.

The Parkinson's Disease support group meets twice a month on the first and third Thursday at Langton's House, Billet Lane, Hornchurch between 2pm and 4pm. Please contact the Parkinson's disease nurse specialist service for more information.

The Havering MS support group meets on the first and second Tuesday of each month at Yew Tree Resource Centre (call 01708 477600 for more information).

The Motor Neurone Disease Association hold monthly meetings for patients and their carers. Please contact the MNDA service for more information.

St Francis Hospice run a group drop in session for those with progressive neurological diseases and their carers monthly (call 01708 753319 ext. 2252 for more information).
