Referrals

Referrals will be accepted from GPs or other health professional. Self referrals or from family, carers or friends and via walk-in centres.

GP Referrals (EMIS Practices)

If you are a GP using EMIS, please submit all new routine referrals to this service via Elemental. This is now the standard referral route into NELFT for EMIS practices and replaces the previous email-based process.

Urgent referrals: If you need to make an urgent referral, please continue to use the existing urgent referral pathways and contact the service directly where required. Elemental should not be used for urgent referrals.

This change applies to GP practices using EMIS. Alternative referral routes remain available for practices using other clinical systems.

Criteria: Aged 18 plus needing assessment of their mental health needs. Resident in Waltham Forest and as appropriate by GP registration.

Exclusions:

• People whose primary presentation is drug or alcohol dependence, learning disability or any organic dysfunction
• People who are currently being seen in secondary care services or who are on CPA
• People with no recourse to public funds will usually not be accepted unless there are other factors which indicate that they should be accepted. Such decisions will normally be a matter for directorate management consideration.
