The special school nursing service provides specialist and holistic nursing care to those children with complex health needs and disabilities who attend special schools.

The service provides:

• nursing assessment and care planning
• acute nursing assessment and intervention as medical conditions change
• emergency intervention i.e. seizure management

The service also provides on-site clinics for:

• developmental reviews, ophthalmology, dental, nutrition, immunisations and opticians.
• advice and liaison with parents, health professionals in the community, hospitals, social care, voluntary and educational professionals
• wound care
• administration of medicines
• multi professional reviews
• child in need meetings
• child protection conferences
• teaching of both staff and parents
