Health visiting
A health visitor is a trained nurse with with an additional specialist qualification in community health and health promotion for families with young children aged 0 to 5 years.
Health visitors lead a team of nurses, nursery nurses, clinical assistants and administrators whose skills complement those of the health visitor. Health visitors work closely with other health professionals and outside agencies such as children’s centres to ensure that your child's health needs are met, and with other services to ensure that each and every child and young person lives in a safe environment. We focus on early intervention and prevention, as well as promoting physical and social wellbeing.
We work with local communities, the whole family, and individual children in different settings e.g. homes, children's centres, schools and GP surgeries. We help support the health and wellbeing of your whole family, from antenatal visits up until your child goes to school.
We run a number of child health drop in clinics throughout the borough. Please contact your local health visiting team for details of your nearest clinic.
We can also offer support and advice on the following:
- breastfeeding, weaning and healthy eating
- bonding and attachment with your child
- parenting skills
- childhood immunisation programme
- development reviews for your child to ensure that your child is reaching their full potential
- postnatal depression
- domestic and child abuse
- medical issues, child or family
- children with additional needs e.g. speech and language difficulties
We work in partnership with our local Children and Family Centres to offer all children in the borough the Best Start in Life http://www.tlpcc.org.uk/
Update
During the pandemic the way we can deliver our service has had to change.
All contacts are by appointment and we will continue to use virtual methods as much as possible.
We are able to offer appointments in COVID secure clinics if your baby or child requires a weight review. We can arrange face to face contacts for parents and children who require this based on individual needs. Any face to face appointments, either in the clinic or at home, will be completed after a virtual assessment has been completed and will be fully risk assessed.
How do you contact us?
We have bookable, virtual clinic appointments, where a member of the team will contact you at an arranged time to discuss any of your concerns or questions
The number to call to book an appointment is 03003001884
If this number is busy, we have a duty telephone number 03003001970 that is open Mon- Friday 9-5 so please do call.
We know that we are living in very challenging times, please be assured that the service is still open and available to all parents in the borough.
