NELFT Trust Board

NELFT NHS Foundation Trust Board of Directors is responsible for the overall strategic direction of Trust and ensures that NELFT continues to achieve its strategic objectives while upholding the Trust’s values. The Trust Board, led by the Chair comprises of executive and non-executive directors.

The executive directors are senior full-time employees of the Trust and they are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Trust. The non-executive directors have a wide range of skill, expertise and experiences and together with the executive directors ensure a robust consideration of the Trust’s performance.   

Our Chair is Eileen Taylor who is a non-executive director serving as the joint Chair of NELFT and East London NHS Foundation Trust.

The Chief Executive Officer is Paul Calaminus.

Dr Hélène Brown

Dr Hélène Brown 

Chief Medical Officer

Dr Hélène Brown is Chief Medical Officer at NELFT, with more than 35 years’ experience in the NHS. A former nurse and a London primary care doctor for two decades, she brings a deep understanding of frontline care alongside extensive senior clinical and system leadership experience.


Before joining NELFT, Hélène held senior regional leadership roles within NHS England, including Medical Director for System Improvement and Professional Standards in the London region. In this capacity, she provided senior clinical leadership for many thousands of clinical professionals across London, including doctors and colleagues in dentistry, pharmacy and optometry. Her work spanned quality and safety, professional standards, workforce development, population health, and partnership working across complex health and care systems.


As Chief Medical Officer, Hélène provides executive leadership for clinical quality, patient safety, medical education and professional standards. She is responsible for the ongoing development and support of doctors within NELFT, and for strengthening research, innovation and improvement as core components of high-quality care. She works closely with nursing, allied health, psychological, social work and corporate leaders to support strong multidisciplinary leadership and collaboration across the organisation.


Hélène is passionate about kind, respectful and inclusive leadership, and about creating a culture of learning and continuous improvement. She is particularly committed to reducing health inequalities and ensuring that care is equitable, compassionate and responsive to local need. She believes deeply in the NHS as a force for good, and considers it a privilege to work alongside colleagues and communities in the shared pursuit of better health and care for all.
