107-year-old patient brings joy to Goodmayes Rehabilitation Unit

Colleagues at Marigold Ward at Meadow Court Rehabilitation Unit in Goodmayes had the privilege of caring for Mrs Parmar, their oldest patient yet at the incredible age of 107 years. She quickly became a much-loved part of the Marigold family, throughout her stay on the ward for stroke rehabilitation.

Gloria Dube, Marigold Ward Manager, shared with us:

“It was a joy to watch Mrs Parmar progress with her therapy. She came to us unable to get out of bed or walk and through rehabilitation, was able to get back to her pre-stroke level of walking with a frame. She enjoyed her daily mobility practice with our rehab assistants and participated in all the therapy led exercise groups.

“Mrs Parmar’s joyful spirit brightened every corner of the ward. She had a wonderful sense of humour and would often ask staff if they had eaten, even offering to share her own food. She loved music and dancing, and her happiness was infectious whenever she joined in. At times, when she grew bored in her room, we brought her to the nurses’ station, where she enjoyed the company and the liveliness around her. Her laughter and cheer lifted everyone’s spirits.

“Although she did not speak English, Mrs Parmar communicated effortlessly through gestures, smiles, and laughter. She was at her happiest when surrounded by her family, and those moments were always a joy to witness.”

Before her discharge, back in July 2025, the ward held a special party to celebrate Mrs Parmar’s remarkable life. It was a wonderful occasion filled with food, drinks, and heartfelt conversations, shared with her loving family, who were deeply appreciative of the care she received on Marigold Ward.

Mrs Parmar’s family expressed their gratitude to the team on Marigold Ward for the care she received, her children shared:

“We are so thankful for the care our mum received during her time on Marigold Ward, she made great progress and was genuinely so happy and well cared for during her stay on the ward. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the staff for all their hard work and kindness.”

Since her discharge from Marigold Ward, Mrs Parmar has been greatly missed. Her warmth and optimism left a lasting impression on all the staff, and she will always remain a cherished part of Marigold Ward’s story.
