Last month, we marked the 25th anniversary of the passing of Maggie Lilley, a beloved Community Psychiatric Nurse whose dedication to mental health care continues to inspire today. Maggie worked at Goodmayes from 1983 to 2000 and her impact on the community and her colleagues was profound.
In recognition of her contributions, the Trust named its nursing directorate suite on the Goodmayes Hospital site, the Maggie Lilley Office Suite. At the official naming, colleagues and family members gathered to celebrate Maggie’s life and the compassionate care she provided.
Sharon Dennis, Director of Nursing, shared:
“Maggie Lilley touched a lot of people in a very positive way. She made a valued contribution to the development and delivery of mental health care in the community. She was well respected by her colleagues - she was somebody they looked up to and wanted to be like.”
Maggie’s legacy is not only in the name of one of our buildings, Maggie’s daughter, Sarah Lynn continues to work at the Trust as one of ARD ’s project managers. She reflected:
“My family still feel great pride, even after 25 years, that the office suite maintains mum’s name.”
Maggie’s legacy also lives on in the hearts of those she cared for and worked alongside, a few of whom still work at the Trust today. Her story continues to remind us of the power of kindness, professionalism, and dedication in mental health care.
