NELFT recently hosted a celebration for International Nurses Day on 12 May, honouring the dedication and resilience of nurses who form the backbone of healthcare.
The event brought together 330 nurses from various specialisms and backgrounds, bringing together over 1 million hours of nursing experience! Creating a vibrant atmosphere of shared experiences, celebration and culture.
The day was a testament to the invaluable contributions of nurses, offering them a space to share their inspirational stories, reflect on their careers, and connect with colleagues who share their passion for patient care.
Throughout the day, speakers took to the stage to recount their pathway into the profession, highlighting moments of triumph and sacrifice. Many shared stories of overcoming challenges, navigating the complexities of patient care, and the deep satisfaction that comes from making a difference in patients’ lives.
Speakers included experienced healthcare professionals who emphasised the importance of self-care and resilience in a demanding profession, but also gave an insight into how nursing has changed over the years for nurses early in their career.
They celebrated their ongoing contributions to healthcare innovation and patient advocacy.
Wellington Makala, Chief Nursing Officer for NELFT, said:
“I want to acknowledge the incredible dedication, compassion, and resilience of our nurses. It’s been a special day reflecting on the incredible work our nurses do supporting patients and their families.
‘‘Thank you for the care you provide and the difference you make in countless lives. Together, we continue to strengthen our profession and inspire the next generation of nurses.”
The event was more than just speeches, the day featured interactive stalls from departments across NELFT, further showcasing how collaborative working with departments has a positive impact on patient care. There were networking opportunities and moments of well-deserved celebration, including awards for long service and outstanding contributions to nursing.
As the day drew to a close, the atmosphere was filled with joy and renewed commitment, with nurses leaving inspired and motivated to continue delivering compassionate care to their patients.
