The Aim of the Conference:

The aim of the conference will be to celebrate the progress made for services since last year’s summit, communicate service users’ priorities over the next two years, and build lasting relationships with internal and external decision makers.

The overall themes will encompass:

  • Improving access to mental health services: Considering ways services can be kind and compassionate when individuals first contact services
  • Equitable access: Establishing what needs to be done to ensure access is equal and fair for all of those seeking support.
  • Support and communication: Looking at ways to help service users who are transitioning from children’s to adult’s services, or from services to the community.

While we are hoping for as many people from across NEL to attend as possible, the conference is geared towards hearing from service users directly about their lived experiences, and what they feel should be done across our trusts to enhance care. This will then provide opportunities for healthcare leaders to think about how to drive changes forward.

Creating a safe and comfortable space for attendees:

This event has been created with the needs of people with mental health difficulties in mind. There will be a quiet room available for anyone who needs some space or wishes to be in a less stimulating setting. The organisers will be on hand if you need to talk or if you find the environment difficult and need some support. We want attendees to feel comfortable to be able to contribute to the event.

The NEL Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Collaborative:

The NEL Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Collaborative is run by service users from across East London NHS Foundation Trust and the North East London NHS Foundation Trust. They are jointly holding a mental health summit for those across the NEL catchment area aiming to improve access to mental health services.
