On Friday 17 September, NELFT submitted its Annual Report and Accounts to the Department of Health and Social Care, as per the deadlines agreed.
Unfortunately we were informed on Friday afternoon that the Department of Health and Social Care has mixed-up its dates, and as the Lords have now risen, NHS Foundation Trust Annual Reports and Accounts cannot be laid before parliament until 18 October when both the House of Commons and House of Lords have returned.
This has implications for NELFT and many other trusts as we cannot put our Annual Report and Accounts into the public domain until they have been laid before Parliament.
As a result of this, we have been asked to reschedule our meeting dates as one of the main purposes of the September Council of Governors meeting is for the Council of Governors to discharge its statutory duty of receiving the Annual Report and Accounts. Similarly, it is a requirement that the Annual Report and Accounts are presented to Trust members at the Annual General Meeting.
Therefore, we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused, but due to limited options, the Chair and Lead Governor have agreed to defer both the Council of Governors meeting and Annual General Meeting on Thursday 23 September. We are trying to find another suitable date and will communicate this at the earliest opportunity.
