"World Pharmacy Technician Day is about recognising pharmacy technicians as a vital part of patient care. From ensuring patients have the right medicines at the right time to supporting safe discharges, we make a real difference every day." Frank Amponsah
For Frank, Medicines Management Technician at Goodmayes Hospital, patient safety and quality care are what make his role so rewarding. With more than five years' experience as a pharmacy technician, Frank works closely with patients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure medicines are used safely and effectively.
He was drawn to pharmacy because of his passion for patient safety and the opportunity to make a direct difference on inpatient wards.
"Seeing patients go home confidently with the right medicines is what keeps me motivated and reminds me that my role makes a real difference."
Over the past three years at Goodmayes Hospital, Frank has developed specialist expertise in mental health medicines, become accredited in medicines reconciliation, and supported improvements in discharge planning, medicines waste reduction and staff development.
His commitment to developing both his clinical and leadership skills has seen him complete qualifications in Medicines Optimisation, Transcribing and Patients' Own Drugs (POD) assessments, and he is currently working towards Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) accreditation. As an Education Supervisor for a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician, Frank is also supporting the next generation of pharmacy professionals.
Frank hopes to complete his ACT accreditation before pursuing a long-term career in pharmacy informatics.
