St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch delivers a range of services that support the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of the local community.
The first six months have demonstrated the hub’s important role in supporting integrated physical and mental health services in the area.
The hub includes a state-of-the-art community diagnostic centre, enabling patients to access scans and other diagnostic tests locally, reducing the need for hospital visits and supporting more coordinated care delivery.
In addition to clinical services, the centre offers spaces for community use, including a café, multi-purpose meeting and education rooms, and a sensory, dementia-friendly garden. These spaces are used by local voluntary and community organisations to host activities that address wider wellbeing needs.
One notable milestone was the recognition of a volunteer, Shweta, by the Havering Volunteer Centre for completing 100 hours of volunteering at the hub. She received a certificate and commemorative pin badge in acknowledgement of her contribution. Shweta described the experience as a valuable opportunity to learn new skills and build confidence while supporting the local community.
Shweta said:
“This is my first ever experience as a volunteer and I joined because I love to lea rn and help people in the community. I am really enjoying my time at St George’s, I have learnt so many new skills and my confidence level is going up and up.
“I feel very honoured to be given this award and thank everyone at Havering Volunteer Centre for giving me this opportunity.”
In March, the hub hosted a community engagement event in partnership with Creative Health Havering, Queen’s Theatre, Havering Music School, and The Romford Shakespeare Theatre. The event invited input from local residents on the development of an arts programme and highlighted plans to incorporate creative activities within the hub.
A neighbourhood community day was also held to engage residents in discussions about partnership work and the delivery of integrated health and wellbeing services. The hub aims to serve approximately 250,000 people across Havering and surrounding areas.
