During Mental Health Awareness week, Waltham Forest Talking Therapies took part in a series of regular drop-in sessions run across the borough by Waltham Forest Council’s Adult Early Help Service.
Waltham Forest Talking Therapies provide free, confidential support for those experiencing common mental health difficulties, including stress, anxiety, and depression. The drop-in sessions allowed the team to reach residents in the community who might not otherwise access this support, breaking down barriers and encouraging early intervention.
The events, run by council staff and volunteers, take place across Walthamstow, Leyton and Chingford, and bring together a range of council services, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Citizens Advice, to provide comprehensive support for local residents. The mornings offer a welcoming, accessible space where residents can seek advice on a wide range of issues, from financial challenges to housing support.
This integrated approach addresses both the practical and emotional challenges residents face, helping to tackle the root causes of distress and improve overall well-being for residents.
Over 70 residents across the borough were able to access the support they needed.
Juanita Azubuike, Community Support Coordinator for London Borough of Waltham Forest said:
‘For many of the visitors to the drop-in sessions, life is very challenging. Having access to the right support, at the right time, can make a real difference which is why it’s so important to have Waltham Forest NHS Talking Therapies attend. It’s been wonderful to see so many people reaching out to them for support’
Holly Towle, Community Engagement Officer for Waltham Forest Talking Therapies said:
‘Mental health is just as important as physical health, and being part of the drop-in sessions means we can offer guidance and support in the heart of the community.’
