In autumn 2019, the Government announced it would allocate £17 million towards funding a new health and wellbeing centre at the former St George's Hospital site in Suttons Lane, Hornchurch.

Local GPs have been working with NHS partners from North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT),  NHS north east London, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) and Barts Health to develop the plans.

The centre will provide people with easy access to a range of health and social care services all under one roof in a brand-new fit-for-purpose building, and provide space for local voluntary and community groups.

St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will benefit the whole community, acting as base for a joint team of health and social care professionals delivering high quality care for people across Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge now and in the future.

In a 12-week engagement period running from 22 November 2021 to 13 February 2022, local people and organisations from across Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge shared their views on the proposals.

The outline business case and a report summarising people’s feedback during this engagement activity were then submitted to the project board in March and have now been approved by the NHS North East London’s governing body. The governing body report and other documents regarding the hub are available for download below.

The full business case is due to be published in October 2022.
