Resources

Websites:

  • BEAT is the UK charity for Eating Disorders with information, support groups and more: https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/
    • SOLACE is a free, online support group offered by BEAT for anyone supporting someone with an eating disorder. There are 7 sessions per week that run at various times to suit all and each session is booked individually so carers/loved ones can attend regularly with the same group or as a one off.
      • Sessions are facilitated by an eating disorder clinician and often have “experts by experience” to discuss their recovery from an eating disorder and offer hope. Sessions include discussions led by parents and carers around setting boundaries, supporting mealtimes, and supporting change.
      • There is no need for a referral, parents, carers and loved ones can book directly via the website: Solace (beateatingdisorders.org.uk)

For Caregivers:

  • Carer Support Group
If you are a family member/carer of someone accessing support from NELFT Eating Disorder Service we are here to support you. Our Carer Support Group is a space to talk with other carers and to think about the impact of the eating disorder on you. This virtual group runs approximately every 6 weeks, is 75 minutes long, and open to all carers across the life span. Please contact EDS admin if you are interested in attending.
  • www.mentalhealthfoundations.ca – This website has lots of resources specifically for caregivers, and is based on Emotion Focused Family Therapy which aims to support caregivers in having a significant role in supporting their loved one’s mental health and wellbeing
