Integrated coronary heart disease service
A clinical health psychology service that’s working within a multi-disciplinary CHD team.
What we do
The cardiac psychologist is part of the long term conditions psychology service which also focuses on diabetes and respiratory conditions. The psychological therapist works with individuals who have heart conditions such as heart failure, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, angina etc. We work to help patients typically having difficulty coping or managing their conditions. Issues that we may deal with would be: loss of confidence, excess worry or fears, difficulty in adjustment, change of lifestyle etc.
Treatment
We offer individual, couple and group interventions to patients. We try to tailor the treatment to the patient’s needs and use different psychological treatment models to explore the psychological impact of the condition and help treat any psychological difficulties. We are flexible in our approach, and we offer short term and longer term interventions i.e. 6 - 20 weekly sessions.
